One of the most popular flooring options in Edmonton is vinyl plank flooring. Originally, vinyl was designed to be an alternative to linoleum flooring, but it has since gained popularity for its durability, water resistance, temperature resistance and affordability. But one of the most significant advantages vinyl flooring has over linoleum flooring is design.

Vinyl flooring offers a variety of designs that mimic all sorts of materials, including stone and wood! You can choose from an endless selection of patterns and colours to suit your unique taste. Read on to learn more about vinyl plank flooring and how to keep it looking great for years to come!

What is Vinyl Plank Flooring

Vinyl flooring, often referred to as luxury vinyl tile or luxury vinyl plank flooring, comes in large tiles or planks that have increased rigidity, density and durability. They come in a variety of realistic designs that mimic stone, hardwood and other materials. Vinyl plank flooring is also easy to install, with each piece clicking and locking together to form a long plank. Not only is vinyl plank flooring easy to install, but it’s also easy to clean!

What To Use When Cleaning Vinyl Plank Flooring

The synthetic material of vinyl plank flooring makes it very easy to maintain. You won’t need special cleaners or expensive tools to keep your floors in shape! Some of the most common cleaning tools to use with vinyl plank flooring include:

  • Vacuum
  • Microfiber cloth
  • Mop
  • Apple cider vinegar
  • Gentle dish soap
  • Soft bristle brush
  • Water

While vinyl plank flooring is tough, it still needs regular cleaning to increase its longevity. Daily vacuuming is recommended, and wet cleaning once or twice a month will help keep your floors looking bright and clean!

Note: It’s important to treat any stains on your vinyl plank flooring ASAP!

How to Clean Vinyl Plank Flooring

There are three simple ways to care for your vinyl plank flooring:

1. Remove surface dirt

The fastest and easiest way to keep your vinyl plank flooring clean is by vacuuming or dry-mopping your floors every other day. This will remove any debris, dirt and dust that could eventually cause tiny scratches on your flooring.

2. Remove stains

A soft bristle brush will help you loosen and remove fresh and stubborn old stains. You can also dip your brush in a baking soda and water mixture to help scrub away the stains. Many have also used hydrogen peroxide to remove tough stains without damaging the flooring.

3. Remove Grime

A popular homemade stain remover that battles grime stains is a vinegar mixture. All you need is a cup of white or apple cider vinegar mixed with a gallon of hot water, and you’re set! Dampen your mop in the mixture and mop your flooring in the direction of the planks. Vinegar is a well-known solvent that tackles grime, dirt and stains without leaving streaks behind.
