Getting ready to replace your floors and let your space truly shine? Whether you’re gearing up for a winter reno or are planning head for some summer changes, swapping out your flooring is one of the best ways to breathe new life into a tired space, increase your property value, add comfort, and enhance your overall experience at home. While there’s no shortage of flooring types to choose from, tile flooring has become increasingly popular thanks to the wide variety of styles and patterns available, easy maintenance, and simplistic installation.
If you’re one of the many homeowners considering adding tile to your space, below is a quick rundown of what to expect in terms of care to help you maximize the lifespan of your new floors. Read on to learn more!
Freshly Installed…Now What?
One of the biggest perks of tile flooring is that it is super fast to install and can allow you to get back to normal sooner than later, especially compared to other floorings. With that being said, one of the most important post-install tips you’ll want to keep in mind is that you will want to be exceedingly gentle on your tile for 2-4 days afterwards, just to give things time to properly set. During this timeframe, avoid any major wash downs and spot treat as needed to make sure there is no excess moisture. Once everything has had a chance to settle in, you can look at doing a deeper clean.
No Harsh Chemicals Are A No Go
One of the worst culprits when it comes to floor damage is harsh cleaning products that strip away productive layers and slowly destroy the flooring itself. While you may be tempted to grab a bottle of wax or detergent while perusing the cleaning aisle, it’s imperative that you always check the label first. While there are many gentle cleaners that can be used (sparingly) on floors, it’s important to make sure that what you’ve chosen is safe for tile flooring specifically. Gentle, neutral ph based cleaners, are typically a good fit, but your number one method should always be warm water and a microfibre cloth/mop. Tile in particular is very easy to keep clean, so with regular water mopping here and there, you might be surprised to find just how little of a need there is for anything else!
Routine Paves the Way for Success
We get it, life is busy and it’s hard to maintain a dedicated cleaning schedule for everything at the best of times! The beauty of tile floors, as we’ve mentioned above, is that they don’t require a whole lot of upkeep to stay looking their best. With that being said, if you allow dirt, grit, and moisture to accumulate, you will begin to see your floors deteriorate much faster than normal. Plan to sweep and mop about once a week on average (you may need more during the winter), and to spot treat as necessary. Spending a few minutes here and there will go a long way to keeping your floors clean, and most importantly, damage-free for the long haul!
